Diva: A January Update

A little bit about what my hair is doing: it’s actually gotten thicker since I started using Tropic Isle Living’s JBCO.  I put it in EVERYTHING (shampoo, conditioner, leave in, and moisturizer ). Even my rough patch has a little length on it.  I’m still struggling with making DC a part of my routine. I did acquire a DC that takes about three minutes to do.  On my lazy days, I use it as directed on the jar but when I know Diva needs extra attention, I add an egg and mayo let it  stay in for 45 minutes.

I think Diva is making okay progress but I want to boost its health and growth by getting it professionally cut.  I have a split end problem and I usually trim my ends every 8 weeks.  I have NO idea if I’m doing it correctly so it’s time to take Diva to a professional.  It’s tax season and along with lowering some bills, I’m going  to take care of me too.  Diva also has a breakage problem. My staple protein conditioner is ORS Hair Mayo  but I believe it’s deemed a “light protein ” conditioner,so I’m in the market for something a little stronger. Obviously, it will still only be used monthly. I started using a new moisturizer. It’s Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk. I’ll do a review on that soon.

I have jumped on the bandwagon and started using a hair supplement. I’m using Nature’s Bounty Hair Skin& Nails vitamins. There are so many of these vitamin brands out there, with the most popular being Hairfinity. I just started them last week so it’s not much to go on right now as far as results. The company promises that you’ll start to see results by the 30 day mark and in mid February, I’ll review it with pics!

Old School Blogging: Reflections

Who do you idolize?
Hmm… “idolize ” is a strong word.  However, there is a young lady at my job who I greatly admire.  She is so unafraid to be who she is and she’s a fellow Taurus as well.  I love working with her and I’ve  affectionately nicknamed her “The Warden”. She isn’t mean but she is serious and on point when necessary.

What is something you are really proud of that you have accomplished?

That’s easy.  I’m so proud of raising my baby for the last 7 years. Not gonna go into detail, but she’s… awesome!

What is something you’re not so proud of?

I’m not proud of the fact that I haven’t been paying as close attention to Mommy In Color as I should be.  I miss writing and I’ve resolved to make an effort because I really do love this space.

Who was your best friend when you were 5,6,or 7? Tell me something about them.

I didn’t really have a best friend until I was at least 8. Her name was Tanya and she lived right across the street from me.  We spent alot of time together because we were in the same  class from 2nd-5th grade and my aunt picked her up from school along with my brother and I.

What is one thing you wish you could still do but may seem impossible right now?

I don’t know. I like to stay optimistic and say there isn’t anything I can’t… Oh wait, yes there is.  I can no longer sit Indian style.

If you could choose it, what would be your last meal?

This is tough. I love a myriad of foods but I guess I’ll choose pork chitterlings and steamed shrimp seasoned with Old Bay seasoning.

What are two or three jobs you’ve had that you liked?

I’ve thus far  had three jobs(including my current one ) and my favorite one was working at JFK Airport. I made good friends (shout out to my bae, Tanisia ) and even met a few celebrities (Liev Shrieber, Henry Winkler, Chris Rock, Red Man, MC Hammer, and Russell Simmons, to name a few).

What is one job you did not like?

My first job. It was boring tedious paperwork. I was a clerical aide in ghetto asbestos unit at the Department of Environmental Protection.

What is your least favorite chore around the house?

I hate all chores!

How tall are you? Do you wish you were taller? Shorter?

I am 5 feet tall. I’m perfectly content with being short. The only downfall is being teased by my youngest brother, who is significantly taller than me(jerk!)

How old are you? What is something you have learned in these years that you want to share?

I am 25yo. I am tired of older people saying that people my age don’t know anything about anything. Ive been through alot in my life( foster care and adoption, teen pregnancy, depression, the death of a parent ) and what I’ve learned is that forgiveness is a powerful thing. When you’ve done something wrong, and you’ve sincerely apologized, move on. When you have been wronged, and that person sincerely apologizes, move on. Apologize and forgive not for the other person, but so you can have peace.

What is one of your favorite quotes on love, life or motherhood (choose one)?

If you can’t live yourself, how in the hell you gonna love anyone else? – Ru Paul
